Before they were called Christians, they were called The Way.
The Way. Not a system to adopt or a philosophy to weigh — a Person to follow. The earliest believers were named for the road they walked, and for the One who called Himself the road: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life." (John 14:6)
Beneath the declaration, the ichthys — one of the church's earliest symbols. The Greek letters inside it, **ΙΧΘΥΣ**, spell "fish," but they were read as an acronym: *Iēsous Christos Theou Huios Sōtēr* — Jesus Christ, God's Son, Savior. Clement of Alexandria told Christians to set a fish on their signet rings — not a code whispered in hiding, but a mark they were willing to carry in the open.
Full centered declaration on the chest with the ichthys beneath. Back-declaration: Not a religion. Not a philosophy. A Person. — anchored in John 14:6, with the DDC seal below.
